Surgical extraction of an erupted tooth

Having an erupted tooth is a very painful experience usually caused by infections or decay. This is because the tooth is usually a sensitive part and it is advisable for a person to visit a dentist early enough before it is too late so as to avoid surgical extraction of erupted tooth.

Surgical extraction can also be called as ”open” tooth extraction.in surgical extraction there is incision on the decayed tooth can be segmented to make it’s removal much easier. Surgical extraction for an erupted tooth is likely to be used when the affected tooth has curvy roots or when it has a complicated design.

In surgical extraction procedure, the dentist will administer anesthetic which will numb the surrounding area of the tooth. In instances where the tooth crown has extremely eroded a dentist may decide to use a “surgical flap” which enables the dentist to access the root of the tooth through gingiva. After creating the flap on the tooth the dentist will use a tool called the periotome to separate the affected tooth away from fibrous tissue which connects it to the jaw bone and absorbs shock during the chewing process.

After the affected tooth is served from the ligament the dentist will divide the tooth into manageable parts by using a drill to segment it depending on factors such as the nearby nerves or the shape the tooth root shape. After segmentation, the dentist will “rock” the tooth within the socket back and forth to make it’s removal much easier. The dentist uses a pair of forceps or a dental tool known as an “elevator” that looks like a screwdriver to “rock” the affected tooth gently to ease the removal of the tooth. The tooth Is finally removed using a pair of forceps.
