What are good daily hygiene habits?
There is truth in the notion that keeping yourself clean will also keep illness, bacteria, and disease at bay. You can minimize your risk of infections developing, keeping a cleanliness and hygiene routine is important. Here is a list of good hygiene habits to maintain as you go about your everyday life.
Washing hands. Many people do not realize that so many germs can be present on our hands. Washing your hands with soap after handling dirty items, such as garbage, going to the bathroom or after you cough or sneeze will go a long way. There is no telling what kind of bacteria can be transferred onto your hands, so it is best to wash your hands right after doing any of these activities. If you cannot wash your hands right away, it is good to have a small bottle of alcohol or a bottle of sanitizer gel handy for times like these.
Brushing and flossing. It is also important to keep your oral health at top quality as well. Brushing and flossing prevent oral issues like gum diseases and tooth decay from developing in your mouth. You must make it a habit to brush at least two times every day. Cleaning your teeth and gums regularly is done to make sure that no food particles are left on teeth. Bacteria feed on the plaque that develops over food particles, and that is the starting point of cavities. If you cannot brush straight away, after a meal, swish some water in your mouth to make sure that the particles left on your teeth come off. Then brush and floss when you get the chance.
Bathing daily. Taking a bath every day is ideal, but then if this does not work for you, you should still find time to take a shower and clean yourself regularly. If you fail to clean your body regularly, bacteria could grow on the dirt that will accumulate on your body.
Trimming finger and toenails. It is also important to make sure your fingernails are properly trimmed. Dirt and bacteria can get underneath very long nails, especially if you do not wash your hands. Also, you risk developing athlete’s foot if you do not clean your feet and trim your toenails when they get too long. Getting in-grown toenails is also a risk that may happen if you do not keep your toenails short and clean.
Get a night of good sleep. Getting a restful sleep should be part of your daily hygiene routine. Sleep at least six to seven hours a day to make sure you have the strength to face the day. It will also strengthen your immune system and make sure that you can implement your daily hygiene routine.
