Things you can’t eat with braces

Getting an orthodontist to place braces on your crooked teeth can be a huge milestone towards improving your smile. However, braces tend to be delicate and need special care during the first few days after the orthodontic procedure. The brackets and wires can easily be destroyed by chewing crunchy, chewy, hard or sticky foods and things. You can read this article to know about modern clear braces that don’t limit your diet like traditional braces do.

Things you can’t eat with braces (but you can with Invisalign)

1. Foods that you bite with your front teeth: Apples, pears, and maize on the cob. Eating such foods can loosen the wires and pull out the brackets.
2. Hard foods: Nuts, cookies, hard bread, pizza crusts, ice cubes, and hard biscuits. Chewing hard foods can lead to loosening of the wires that hold your braces brackets.
3. Chewy foods: Gums, dried fruits, and jelly beans. They can pull off the brackets as well as bend the wires.
4. Sugary and acidic drinks. Sodas and natural fruit juices can cause tooth decay and stain you braces too.
5. Sticky foods: They can loosen the braces and cause tooth decay. Popcorns and sweets like lollipops and toffee.

Good news is that you can eat:

soft fruit are not among things you can't eat with braces

Orthodontic treatments like braces can improve your dental outlook and health. However, it’s important to consider special care for braces. The wires and brackets can be loosened leading to the ineffectiveness of the treatment. To avoid such hurdles, avoid sticky, chewy, and hard foods among others which can damage your braces and teeth. Also, ensure that you brush and floss your teeth to make the braces more effective.
